The 2013 Solaia Antinori Wine, shaped by the unique weather of that year, unfolds a captivating narrative. A slightly delayed bud break and flowering in spring gave way to a lush vegetative surge due to cool, rainy months of May and June. July and August, dry and warm, allowed the vines to recover, setting the stage for an ideal September and October harvest. The meticulous harvest began in late September, with Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese reaching optimal ripeness in October.
Annual rainfall: 1209.8 mm
Average temperature (April 1 - October 17): 18.98°C
Rainfall (April 1 - October 17): 564.2 mm
Vinification for the 2013 vintage was marked by meticulous vineyard management, careful grape selection, and attention to detail. The result: musts rich in color, aroma, and fruit expression. The vinification process included destemming, grape selection, and a focus on maintaining freshness and aroma during fermentation and maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barriques added finesse, and 18 months of aging in new French oak barrels completed the process.
Solaia, a 20-hectare vineyard at 350-400 meters above sea level, features rocky, limestone-rich soil. First produced in 1978, Solaia evolved to its present blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Sangiovese. Produced only in exceptional years, it was absent in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, and 1992.
